My Publications on INSPIREHEP

Overview

I have worked in many areas across the breadth of theoretical high energy physics with a special interest in string theory, especially its connections to cosmology. Some topics I've studied (and which continue to interest me even when I'm not working on them) are described below.

I have been lucky to work with a great many excellent students during my time at UWinnipeg. See research group photos for a few of them.

I believe in Open Access research. My research publications (and arXiv preprints) are available here through the INSPIRE HEP database. From 2014 on, my preprints are all updated to match published versions in content, and I publish in SCOAP3 journals whenever possible.

Major Topics

String Phenomenology

String phenomenology is the study connecting string theory, the only candidate theory for a unified description of fundamental physics and quantum gravity, to observations of the real world (often in cosmology). I am active in several areas of string phenomenology, especially understanding possible signatures of hot strings in the early universe.

String Compactification

String theory requires extra dimensions, which are the source of a great deal of interesting string phenomenology. A given model of the extra dimensions is known as a compactification. An important question is how to derive the effective theory of 4D physics associated with a given compactification, and this is a major area of my research.
